July 2012 – Mystery Wines

Taste to Learn July 2012

Lars and Lanna Vedvick hosted this Mystery Wine event which involved much appreciated organization and research. There was a $10 fee to cover the cost of the wine samples. A description sheet was provided to each participant that listed the tasting notes for seven White Varietals ( Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscato, Pinot Grigio, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, and Viognier ). On the other side of the information sheet there were tasting notes for eight Red Varietals ( Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, and Barbera ).

One by one nine samples were served to each person; 3 white wines, 1 rose, 4 red wines and 1 dessert wine.

Each participant wrote down what they perceived each sample to be, based on the possible choices and their personal knowledge of the wine varietals characteristics. For bonus points participants also wrote down what country or state (Washington, Oregon, California) they thought the sample came from.

The person with the highest score was Kris with 6 out of  9 mystery wines.  Congratulations Kris! You have earned the high esteemed bragging rights to Best Nose and Palette! Way to Go Kris!

Grilled chicken with side salads, appetizers and desserts were shared and enjoyed by all.
